I didn’t expect this! Twitter is the fastest-growing search mechanism on the web. I hesitate to call twitter a “search engine” (contrary to my headline) because it does so much more and wasn’t originated to be used as a search mechanism first and all other things a distant second (like most traditional search engines, like google, yahoo, and bing).

Not only is twitter the fastest-growing, it is now 2nd only to the almighty google in terms of number of searches performed in a month. Get this:

This is up 33% from April, where at Twitter’s Chirp conference Stone said Twitter was serving 600 million search queries per day. This roughly equates to 24 billion searches per month which is more than Bing (4.1) and Yahoo (9.4) combined.

Twitter is a formidable player now not only in social media but in news and search. How about that?

As a business owner, you may feel like you’re limited in what you can do with Facebook Fan pages (and you’d be right) but there is a special programming/markup language you can use to do lots of cool stuff on your own Facebook page(s).

The application that allows this is called FBML (Facebook Markup Language). Here, John Haydon shows how to add a clickable image on a Facebook page tab and how to embed a YouTube video.

Very cool stuff!

Here's an interesting article about the effects of social media on the brain. This could explain the seeming addiction of some to Facebook and/or Twitter!

Social Networking Affects Brains Like Falling in Love

As Zak and others deepen their study of oxytocin, we may better understand why people with friends live longer and get sick less, and why we are compelled to be social animals online and off. If these changes apply in the world of social media, the implications for business — for every brand, company, and marketer trying to understand the now intimately networked world — could be significant.

In the next day or so, I'm going to be giving away an ebook that covers Twitter and Facebook social marketing.

If you want it, you have to do 2 things:

Go to my Facebook fan page – Social Media Marketing – and "like" it, and then

Accept my "Friend" request when I personally (manually, not automatically) send it to you

Once you accept, I will send you a message from within Facebook with the special download link to the report (it's super-secret).

In all honesty, I will be selling this report – probably for between $17 and $27 – soon. So snatch your spot right away before it's not free any more.

Here's the cool stuff about the report (I know, I put the "price" up front and the benefits behind, totally backwards–get used to it):

Find out how you can dominate your market with powerful Facebook advertising!

The simple way of creating high traffic fan pages for maximum traffic and profits!

How to create automatic Twitter marketing campaigns that will flood your website with targeted traffic!

The top social networking sites that will help you build a list, launch your website, and develop brand awareness, instantly!

And Much, Much More!

Yeah, when I sell it, there will be a fancy sales page. But for now, check out my Facebook page, "like" it, and then accept my friend request when it comes (this is not an automated process, so I'll send you a friend request within a reasonable time).

Then, follow the download link. Most importantly–READ IT and then DO IT!

NOTE: In order to participate in this offer, you have to be a Facebook user.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: If you've already "Liked" my Facebook fan page and accepted my friend request, you'll get the book free. I'll email you the link.

I see posts every day for “Social Media Managers” on job boards and corporate employment pages. There is obviously a desire by the big companies to get into social media, find out all about it, and make it a profitable venture for everyone involved.

I say “desire” because there’s no compelling need to get into social media marketing by Fortune 500 companies. They have massive marketing departments with hordes of capable staff on hand with brilliant ideas just waiting to get approved, funded, and implemented. Nothing’s changed in Corporate Marketing America for a hundred years.

Or has it?

Indeed, social media marketing and management is a valuable skill set to retain in-house. But companies, large and small alike, may be better off outsourcing their social media efforts.

Here’s why, in large part:

Starbucks’s Alexandra Wheeler and Alex Balfour of London 2012 mailed their creative presentations in and gave absolutely nothing away. When this reporter asked Alexandra about ROI, even after stating one social media promotion “brought 1 million visitors to Starbucks stores,” the presenter when pressed to answer if that represented growth in sales per store said “that’s proprietary information.”

Then why bring it up? Yes, I too was choked up by Starbucks’s “All You Need Is Love” global sing-along and yet kept asking how does that fit into a social media strategy beyond some brand manager at the end of the year pointing and saying “look how we used social media” without ever being questioned about sales results or financial impact?

First off, this is somewhat new territory. Nobody really knows what works and how to measure effectiveness. After all, we’re not even sure what our goals are! Are we trying to market our brand, sell our goods and services, or perform damage control? Nobody, especially at the corporate level, knows.

What we do know from anecdotal evidence is that generating brand buzz and excitement about new products is clearly possible with social media. It just takes some experimentation (testing), creativity, and enthusiasm to “get the job done” (whatever that “job” may be).

For more, read Denis Campbell: Corporate Social Media Usage: No one really knows how and we’re all in the same boat.

There are a ton of keyword research tools, the most popular of which is Google AdWords: Keyword Tool. It's free and relatively easy to use.

However, it only returns keywords that rank in its own index.

That leaves out Yahoo, Bing, and all the other search engines!

Keyword Research Made Easy

I just came across the best tool yet for discovering relevant keywords. It's called Keyword Snatcher and it's fast, easy to use, and returns quite a few more keywords than Google's tool.

I call it Keyword Research Made Easy

Why is this important?

More quality keyword phrases means more unique posts that you can write for your own website; it also means you can submit more articles to article directories.

More content on your own site means that the Search Engines will value your website more than your competitors who have less quality content. You have more "authority." Authority is one of the 3 keys to Search Engine success (the other 2 are number of backlinks and age of your domain).

People will be able to find your posts by using the long-tail keywords that Keyword Snatcher returns in its results. You will find that over time you will begin ranking for the keywords for which you wrote posts.

Now, remember that the number of backlinks you have to your site is important? Getting your articles published in article directories is one of many ways to get backlinks from "authority sites"!

You can get literally hundreds of high-quality backlinks by using the keywords that Keyword Snatcher gives you to write articles that you post to article directories like goarticles.com, ezinearticles.com, and searchwarp.com.

If you're smart and efficient, you'll post the same (or similar, aka "spun") articles to multiple directories, thus maximizing your backlinking efforts with as little work as possible.

That, my friend, is efficiency!

Here's a little example of how effective Keyword Snatcher is. I entered "social media" in the tool as well as in Google's own tool. I got 150+ more keywords from Keyword Snatcher than I did with Google.

That means, at a minimum, I have 150 more unique posts that I can write for my own website, as well as 150 more articles I can post to one article directory!

Do you see the importance of this?

NOTE: Keyword Snatcher will only be available through June 25, when the author, Jonathan Leger (an internet marketing genius) will pull it off the market forever (or at least until he comes up with something better! That's the way this stuff works).

You can be part of something VERY big right now. You'll help the economy, your community, and–YES–yourself by helping local businesses connect with new customers using basic social media.

Social Media Managers are in HUGE demand right now. You don't need a product or a website to rake it in. I'm here to tell you–if you don't want to pay for my services, you owe it to yourself to become very intimate with social media marketing.

Knowing what goes on "behind the scenes" will help you discern between social marketing pros and shams. Plus, you can do some of it yourself.

Ryan Deiss has teamed up with Kate Buck, who's a social media manager. She rakes in over $10,000 a month right now PART-TIME. Yeah, with only a few customers on retainer.

Watch this short video to see how she does it.
